Barack and Michelle Obama’s personal cook dies in accident

Tafari Campbell, former chef of the White House and employee of Barack and Michelle Obama since 2016, died on Monday, in a paddle accident right next to a residence of the couple, said the police of Massachusetts.

According to the press release, the 45-year-old man was paddleboarding – a water sport that involves moving around standing on a board with a paddle – in Marta’s Vineyard, an exclusive piece of land in Massachusetts where jet-setters and former presidents have second homes there.

Accompanied by another paddleboarder, he went “into the water, appeared to struggle briefly to stay on the surface, then was submerged and did not resurface.”

The cook’s body was recovered Monday morning by law enforcement who used sonar to locate him underwater. According to the authorities, it was more than 300 meters from the shore at a depth of almost 2.5 meters.
