Sylvester Madu escapes assassination in Cameroon

Nollywood star Sylvester Madu was attacked while shooting his next film by armed separatists in the North-West region of Cameroon, bordering neighboring Nigeria.

“The Nollywood star was in a snack bar in Bamenda in the North-West, accompanied by his crew, when armed separatists burst in,” according to witnesses.

Initially, they questioned the owner of the establishment, asking him whether the Nigerian actor had paid the royalties they were supposed to receive.

“Shots then rang out in the room, which was packed with around 50 people,” reports said.

Three people were killed on the spot.

Renowned Nollywood actor Sylvester Madu, better known as Shina Rambo, is coming to Cameroon to shoot “Abakwa”, a film tackling the critical issue of drug addiction.

The Bamenda region, where the scenario is shot, has been the stronghold of an armed struggle since 2016 between Cameroon’s republican forces and Cameroon’s English-speaking separatists, who are calling for the country to be partitioned in two.
