Influencer jailed for insulting public figure.

Known as Observateur Ebene, the influencer was sentenced on Tuesday April 23 by the Abidjan-Plateau Court of First Instance to 12 months imprisonment, six months of which were suspended in Ivory Coast.

His real name Kouakou Amani Florent, and he was found guilty on two counts: broadcasting outrageous expressions against a person on social networks, and disseminating data damaging to a person’s honor and dignity.

The court decision stipulates that he must pay 5 million CFA francs to the State of Ivory Coast and a symbolic franc to his victim, actress and TV columnist Marie-Paule Adje.

A social networking phenomenon, Observateur Ebène has become famous on the web for his humorous videos, some of which are insulting in nature.
