At least eight dead after floods in Algeria

Floods caused by torrential rains which fell on Saturday in western Algeria left at least eight dead, according to a report from the Algerian Civil Protection published this Sunday.

“In Tlemcen, the bodies of two women and two men, aged between 22 and 73, were recovered on Sunday,” Civil Protection said, specifying that four victims were on board a vehicle which was swept away by the floods of the Oued Ed-Dali river.

In El Bayadh, four other people, three women and a man died after their vehicle was swept away by the floods of the Oued Chadli river.

The national meteorological office issued a special weather bulletin (BMS) on Friday forecasting stormy rains in several departments of northern Algeria from Saturday, with a cumulative amount of rain that could exceed 40 millimeters in 24 hours.
