The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on Anita Among, speaker of Uganda’s parliament, and two MPs for alleged corruption.
A statement said they stole from the country’s poorest communities and would be subject to travel bans and asset freezes.
The British Foreign Office said the two former ministers, Mary Goretti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu, stole thousands of roofing sheets intended for vulnerable communities in the Karamoja region.
He said the President, Anita Among, was also involved. She was also accused of corruption involving parliamentary funds.
Ms Among described the allegations as rumors sparked by her support for Uganda’s strict anti-LGBT legislation.
