A butcher accused of making blasphemous remarks against Islam’s prophet, the Prophet Muhammad, has been beaten to death by an angry mob in Nigeria’s Sokoto state, local media reported.
According to multiple reports, the incident occurred at the Sokoto metropolis abattoir on the morning of Sunday, June 25, 2023.
Although the exact blasphemous statement remains unknown, the incident has been established to have happened during an argument with another trader.
An eyewitness, told Premium Times that the victim made the alleged comment and repeated it three times when confronted by some of the people present.
The Sokoto State Police Command also confirmed the killing in a statement and said it had opened an investigation into the incident.
