World No Tobacco Day: four apps to (really) quit smoking

In addition to medical and therapeutic aids, more and more applications can now help smokers reduce or even stop their tobacco consumption.

This Wednesday, May 31 marks World No-Tobacco Day.

Here are four apps to become more aware of tobacco consumption or, even better, to approach its cessation in the best conditions.

Kwit

With its 3.5 million daily users, Kwit is the French nugget of anti-tobacco. Created by a former smoker, the application is presented as a therapeutic aid and focuses on encouragement. After entering their smoking habits, the user is assigned a profile that keeps them informed daily of their progress, including money saved and health benefits, all in the form of increments.

It offers a follow-up in the form of a diary, allowing you to report any “cracks”, and will give encouragement if necessary. Finally, a reward system makes it all rather fun. If a more complete paid version is available, the free version, available on the App Store and the Play Store, is more than enough for daily use.

Flamy

Flamy is another application that has chosen entertainment as its support. Flamy presents itself quite similar to Kwit, but also offers a system of mini-games to “keep busy” in case of cravings. You can indicate your financial goals in a personalized way to motivate yourself not to buy more packs of cigarettes, or even share your goals in the form of bets with other people to give yourself courage.

The health and money benefits are also presented in the form of a follow-up. The free version is a little less extensive than the paid version, but still offers a range of welcome services. Flamy is currently only available on Play Store.

Coaching (tobacco info-service)

This application was designed by the Ministry of Health, Health Insurance and Public Health France. It has the same functions as all the others: mini-games, objectives, health and finance levels. But its strong point lies above all in the possibility of calling on a tobacco specialist, by telephone or email. The app promises to get in touch within 48 hours maximum. The personalized support, quite effective, also allows you to choose your own strategies or stop or resist cracking. The interface is simple and functional, and the application is free.

Smoke Watchers

Smoke Watchers, unlike previous apps, doesn’t really offer personalized daily tracking. Here, it is above all mutual aid that takes precedence: a sort of sponsorship system makes it possible to discuss with other people wishing to quit or who have already succeeded, a beneficial point for those who wish to feel supported and in a community. Small flat, its effectiveness obviously depends on the number of users. It is currently available on the App Store and Play Store.

Moreover, it is always good to remember that these applications can be used in addition to other quitting aids: medical and tobacco monitoring, nicotine patches or gum, etc.
