Afghan women launch strong appeal to the UN

Afghan women launched a strong appeal to the United Nations on Monday for real international action to end the “gender apartheid” established in their country since the return to power of the Taliban.

“Today, human rights in Afghanistan do not exist,” Mahbouba Seraj told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva during a debate on the rights of women and Afghan girls.

This journalist and women’s rights activist in Afghanistan is “fed up” with unsuccessfully sounding the alarm over the abrogation of women’s and girls’ rights in her country.

“The women of this country do not exist… We are in danger (ed.)”, added Mahbouba Seraj who called on UN leaders to take all possible measures to reverse the situation.

Afghan women must cover themselves completely in public, including the face, ideally with the burqa, a full veil with a fabric grid at eye level.
