Nigerian bank CEO and family killed in helicopter crash

The Groupe Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria’s largest bank, Herbert Wigwe has died following a helicopter crash in California near the Nevada border, United States of America, according to reports.

“His wife and his son were also among the six people killed in the crash,” according to reports.

The Federal Aviation Administration said that the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter crashed at around 10 p.m. local time near Nipton, Calif, an unincorporated community about 60 miles south of Las Vegas in eastern San Bernardino County.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, confirmed the incident,  describing it as shocking.

“Their passing is an overwhelming tragedy that is shocking beyond comprehension. I extend my condolences to the Wigwe and Ogunbanjo families, the business community, and all those impacted by this harrowing incident,” Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

An investigation is underway to determine the actual cause of the incident.
