King Charles III, the 75-year-old British monarch, is suffering from cancer after waiting more than fifty years to accede to the throne.
The disease has forced him to withdraw from public life for an indefinite period.
Having acceded to the throne on the death of his mother on September 8, 2022, the monarch has only spent 17 months on it. An unusual situation for the British monarchy.
In the event of the King’s incapacity, there are two possibilities: regency, in other words, a time when someone replaces the King and has the same powers or abdication.
Buckingham Palace assures, however, that Charles III will continue to look after “the affairs of state” while he recovers.
