Swahili now official language in Tanzania

English has been replaced by Swahili as the official and national language in Tanzania, according to reports.

Swahili is a Bantu language spoken by over 100 million people in East Africa.

From now on, Swahili will be the language of choice in Tanzania’s schools and administration.

Studying in a language with which they are familiar will enable Tanzanian students to gain a better understanding of courses and develop self-confidence.

Long considered an obscure language, Swahili is one of the most widely spoken African languages, and one of the ten most widely spoken in the world, with over 200 million speakers.

Unesco has designated every July 7 as World Swahili Day, and it is the first African language to be recognized by the United Nations.
