Suspended by the World Bank since the coup d’état that ousted Ali Bongo from power, Gabon has announced the restoration of cooperation with the institution.
According to the government, the resumption of cooperation between the World Bank and Gabon is contained in an official letter dated December 11.
The letter quoted by the authorities announces that disbursements will be able to resume shortly.
A tweet from the Gabonese Ministry of Communication announced the resumption of cooperation between Gabon and the World Bank.
The World Bank’s portfolio in Gabon currently includes 5 projects representing a commitment of over 250 million dollars. Other projects may soon be under consideration by the institution.
This decision is the culmination of the pro-active diplomacy instituted by the authorities in Libreville.
According to reports, contacts had already been made in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assemblies in September.
A World Bank team then visited Gabon in October. According to witness, World Bank staff then had access to all departments.
Gabon had been suspended by the World Bank since the last coup d’état.
