Convicted former Ivorian PM Soro Guillaume lands in Niger

Former Ivorian Prime Minister Soro Kigbafori Guillaume announced that he had landed in Niamey, the capital of Niger, after five years of exile.

Guillaume Soro, who took himself into exile in 2019, says he plans to return home despite having two criminal convictions.

He said on Sunday that he wanted to go back because it was hard “to live far from my ancestral… land of Africa”.

He added that he wanted to “contribute to the reconciliation” of the country.

Mr Soro finally landed in Niamey, the capital of Niger.

“He will be received in audience today by General Abdourahmane Tchiani, President of the Transition and Head of State of Niger. This meeting is of particular importance for Mr. SORO, who remains committed to his desire to make his contribution to building peace and harmony between the brother peoples of Africa, “ he announced on his account on X (formerly Twitter).
