Man arrested 21 years after murder of father and 3-year-old daughter

Twenty-one years after the double murder of a father and his 3-year-old daughter in Compton, California, a suspect now aged 47 was arrested on October 30, several American media including the ABC7 channel reported.

According to authorities, who spoke on the subject Friday, the double murder occurred on August 8, 2001, as a wave of gang violence raged in and around the city of Compton, sparked by the shooting death of a young man of 22 the day before.

“On August 8, 2001, the defendant allegedly conspired with a group of people to commit a series of drive-by shootings in the city of Compton,” the county prosecutor said in a statement released Friday.

Stephen Murphy, 25, and his 3-year-old daughter, Kali, would therefore have been collateral victims of this surge of violence, the authorities further explained.

Other people were hit in shootings in different parts of the city the same day.
