Uganda: a young man faces the death penalty

A 20-year-old man has been charged and remanded in custody for having illegal sex with a 41-year-old adult man in Uganda, according to reports.

This is the first time a person has been prosecuted by the Ugandan justice system since President Yoweri Museveni promulgated the controversial law on homos3xuality.

This anti-LGBT law, which provides for the death penalty, is considered one of the harshest in the world, according to several international observers.

“(…) So I’m worried for my community because this will probably happen to others soon,” fears Frank Mugisha, one of the country’s only LGBT activists.

This law is used by politicians for their own interests and to boost their popularity in Uganda. It has no raison and nothing can justify it, because homosexuals do no harm!

“In reality, this law doesn’t protect anyone; worse still, it endangers the LGBTQ community”.
