Mali and Burkina Faso warn ECOWAS against any intervention in Niger

The military leaders of Mali and Burkina Faso issued a joint statement warning authorities of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The warning comes after the regional bloc threatened to intervene militarily in Niger in order to reinstall the ousted president, Mohamed Bazoum.

According to the press release, any military intervention in Niger would amount to a declaration of war against Mali and Burkina Faso.

Recall that ECOWAS and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) declared that they will close borders with Niger , prohibit commercial flights, interrupt financial transactions, freeze national assets and cut aid.

The Republic of Guinea, for its part, has dissociated itself from the ECOWAS sanctions against Niger.
