North Korea once again threatens South Korea and the United States

Washington and Seoul will “face proportional responses for their mad dash for nuclear war”, warns Pyongyang in a text published this Friday by the North Korean state agency KCNA, in reaction to the announcement of future joint military exercises hosted by South Korea and the United States.

The South Korean news agency Yonhap explains that military exercises organized by Seoul and Washington must take place from the end of May until mid-June to mark the 70th anniversary of the alliance between the two countries.

Similar major exercises have already taken place in March. Dubbed “Defense Shield”, they had heightened tensions around the two Koreas.

In recent months, tension has risen on the Korean peninsula, with several missile tests.

In March, north-Korean leader Kim Jong-Un led military exercises for two days “simulating a nuclear counterattack” and including a ballistic missile launch equipped with a “dummy nuclear warhead”.
