Nigeria: four men sentenced to death for robbery

A court in Ekiti State High sentenced four men to death by hanging for dispossessing their victims of phones, necklace, wristwatches and other valuables at gunpoint in Nigeria.

One of the victims, who testified before the court, said, ” We were coming from a show in Ekute Quarters of Ado Ekiti. We boarded a bike billed to take us to Odo-Ado. When we were approaching Odo Ado area, he suddenly stopped at a lonely place.”

“Before we asked what happened, other boys came out and they pointed guns at us; some of them held axes and knives. They took our phones, necklace, wristwatches and other valuables,” he said.

The matter was reported at a police station before they were later arrested.

“The punishment for armed robbery is death. For the offense of armed robbery, the sentence of this court upon the defendants is that they will be hanged by the neck until they died, may God have mercy on your souls,” the judge proclaimed.
