Equatorial Guinea: President Obiang begins sixth term

The world’s longest-serving president, Equatoguinean President Teodoro Obiang Nguema has just begun his controversial new sixth term.

Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who is 80, took the presidential oath before inspecting a military parade.

He declared he was – and always would be – the leader of all Equatorial Guineans.

On Saturday, November 26, the President of Equatorial Guinea was re-elected, unsurprisingly, with 94.9% of the vote, for a sixth term in this small Central African oil state with one of the most closed and authoritarian regimes in the world.
