COVID-19: WHO urges for prioritizing health over celebrations

The boss of the World Health Organization(WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has urged people to cancel some of their holiday plans in order to protect public health, as the Omicron variant spreads globally.

“An event cancelled is better than a life cancelled,” said WHO head Dr Tedros , adding that “difficult decisions” must be made.

The new variant of the coronavirus, Omicron, was first detected in South Africa in November and has been classified as ‘variant of concern’ by the WHO.
