Omicron variant: Dr Fauci predicts “difficult moments to come”

The head of the United States Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases(NIAID), Anthony Fauci, warned on Sunday that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was “rampant” across the world and called for vaccination.

“This virus is extraordinary, all over the world the number of cases is doubling every two or three days. Currently, in some parts of the country, 50% of isolated people have contracted the Omicron variant, which means that it will take over,” Chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden told CNN.

The American immunologist also urges people to go to vaccination centers in order to get vaccinated against the virus.

“It is never too late to get the vaccine and if you are vaccinated go take your booster dose and be careful in whatever you do,” he said before adding “with the Omicron variant, we’re going to have a few tough weeks or months as winter approaches. “
