Nigeria: authorities to destroy expired Covid-19 vaccines

The Nigerian government has announced that a million of doses of coronavirus vaccines in the country expired last month and said they had been withdrawn before then and will be destroyed.

The government said in the statement that it “now politely declines all vaccine donations with short shelf life or those that cannot be delivered in time”.

The now expired doses originally arrived in Nigeria with a remaining shelf life of between four and six weeks, Reuters reported.

The West African country has so far recorded 215,000 cases of coronavirus, including 2,980 deaths.
