Ethiopia: UN worried as Tigray aid trucks not returning

The UN agency in Ethiopia said it is concerned as hundreds of trucks carrying aid to the northern Ethiopian region of Tigray are not returning.

On its Twitter account, the UN agency in Ethiopia indicates that none of the 149 trucks in a convoy that went into the Tigrayan capital Mekele last week has returned.

It adds that since 12 July, only 38 out the 466 trucks that have entered Tigray have returned:

The Ethiopian government says it suspects that Tigray rebels have been “seizing trucks for their own logistics”, but Getachew Reda, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front’s spokesperson has denied responsibility over the matter, saying that he shares the UN’s concern.
