Tunisia: detained, Yassine Ayari goes on hunger strike

Lawyers of the Tunisian MP and critic of the president, Yassine Ayari have announced that their client is due to begin a hunger strike to protest against his detention.

Yassine Ayari who suffers from ulcers according to his lawyers, started this hunger strike in order to protest against “a civilian being prosecuted by the military”.

Yassine Ayari, who is also an influential blogger, was arrested and jailed by the military at the end of July.

His arrest came days after President Kais Saied suspended parliament and fired the prime minister.

The president also lifted the immunity of all members of parliament.
