Carlos Vila Nova, former Infrastructure Minister in São Tomé and Príncipe’s has won Sunday’s twice-postponed presidential run-off election.
The National Election Commission said he won the ballot box with 57.54% of the vote.
Mr Nova was backed by the opposition Independent Democratic Action party.
The vote took place calmly and transparently and no major incidents were reported.

Current President Evaristo Carvalho, who has been in office since 2016, did not seek re-election, saying he wanted “to pass on the baton to the younger generation”.
