54 soldiers killed in Islamic militant attack

Nigeria: 12 people killed by Boko Haram

At least 12 people from Nigeria’s Bokko Ghide community, including two vigilantes, were killed by Boko Haram terrorists on Saturday in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, northeast Nigeria.

Mohammed Timta, the Emir of Gwoza, the traditional and Islamic ruler of the area, confirmed the incident to Anadolu on Sunday morning.

While two local vigilantes were ambushed and killed along the Kirawa road in Pulka district, 10 other victims were civilians who had ventured into the bush in search of firewood.

“We have buried the victims, while others with varying degrees of injury are receiving medical treatment in Maiduguri,” said Timta, adding, “People are now afraid to go to their farmlands, and it’s time to prepare the land before the rainy season.”

The attacks came just 48 days after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu tasked Defense Minister Badaru Abubakar, Chief of Army Staff General Christopher Musa and other top military brass to assess the security situation in Borno State.

Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno State, sounded the alarm that terrorists were regrouping and that their attacks were becoming increasingly deadly in the Lake Chad region.
