The private television channel Joliba TV has been suspended by the High Authority for Communication (HAC) in Bamako, Mali.
An official of the channel explains that the HAC has withdrawn its license, and that the measure will take effect on November 26.
The decision by Mali’s Haute Autorité de la Communication to suspend local private broadcaster Joliba TV News follows a complaint lodged against Joliba TV by Burkina Faso’s Conseil Supérieur de la Communication on November 12.
During a televised debate, Issa Kaou N’Djim a Malian political figure had made comments deemed extremely serious by Ouagadougou, against the junta in power in Mali’s neighboring country.
Since then, Issa Kaou N’Djim has been under arrest in Bamako on November 13 for publicly offending a foreign head of state, and is due to stand trial on December 23.
Joliba TV has been suspended. This decision has outraged Noël Yao, President of the Union of Journalists of the Free African Press (UJPLA).
