Canada now has an embassy in Benin, marking a significant turning point in bilateral relations between the two countries.
This decision, announced by the Canadian authorities, elevates the Canadian diplomatic representation to the rank of embassy with residence in Cotonou.
For Cotonou, the creation of this embassy symbolizes Canada’s confidence in Benin, and testifies to the country’s growing attractiveness on the African and international scene.
According to the Beninese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this initiative reflects the strength of the diplomatic ties uniting Canada and Benin, and paves the way for a stronger, mutually beneficial partnership.
This development is also seen as recognition of the reforms and diplomacy undertaken by the Beninese government to modernize the country and stimulate its economic development.
“This step in our bilateral relations will enable us to build an enriched and mutually beneficial partnership”, said the Beninese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
