Father Christophe Komlan Badjougou, a Catholic priest of Togolese origin, was murdered in Mvolyé, a religious district of Yaoundé, Cameroon.
At the entrance to the CICM community, Father Christophe Komla, of the diocese of Yagoua, was brutally murdered. The priest was due to spend the night in Yaoundé before travelling to Rome.
According to witnesses, the priest, who was riding in a cab, was followed by a motorcycle before being shot five times at point-blank range, wounding him in the abdomen, arm and heart.
Father Christophe was stationed in the northern region of Cameroon, serving as Fidei Donum in the diocese of Yagoua and as parish priest of the parish of Saint-Pierre-et-Paul de Zouzoui.
Prior to his mission in Yagoua, he had studied at the major seminary in Douala.
The murder of priests in obscure circumstances has been commonplace in Cameroon since 1982.
