Like the Moon, a new satellite will orbit our planet from this Sunday, September 29 as the earth will literally have two moons for almost two months.
However, the new star will not be visible, with its phases, craters and gradations of color on the horizon.
Named 2024 PT5, the second moon will be invisible to the naked eye, being 300,000 times smaller than the Moon we’re used to seeing.
The telescope at the Sutherland Observatory in South Africa discovered this pebble on August 7. This mini-moon will remain linked to the Earth until November 25, a period of 57 days.
Unlike the Moon, 2024 PT5 will not describe a complete circle around the Earth, but only an arc before moving away and resuming its course around the Sun.
The European Space Agency (ESA) has named 2024 PT5 as asteroid of the month.
