A fire at a school killed 16 pupils and seriously injured 14 others in Nairobi, Kenya, according to the authorities.
The fire broke out at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri, some 150 kilometers north of Nairobi, reducing the dormitory to ashes.
Resila Onyango, spokesperson for the Kenyan police said, “rescue workers had taken the injured students to a nearby hospital, where they are being treated for severe burns.”
“The fire caused such extensive damage that it was difficult to identify the victims, many of whom were burned beyond recognition,” according to reports.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
In September 2017, a fire at Moi Girls’ School in Nairobi killed nine students, and it was later determined to be arson.
