Africa: China to create one million jobs

At the opening of the China-Africa Forum in Beijing on Thursday September 5, Chinese President Xi Jinping made a major announcement that over the next three years, the African continent will be able to count on China’s financial support.

“China is Africa’s leading trading partner, with bilateral trade worth $167.8 billion in the first half of the year,” according to official Chinese media.

On the technical front, Beijing has also sent hundreds of thousands of workers and engineers to Africa over the past two decades, as part of several major projects.

This partnership, however, conceals privileged access to Africa’s vast mineral resources, including copper, gold and lithium.

While China has been criticized for initiating a variable-dimension partnership, Chinese President Xi Jinping asserts that China-Africa relations are experiencing their best period in history.

“Over the next three years, the Chinese government is ready to provide financial support worth 360 billion yuan ($50.7 billion),” Xi said at the opening ceremony of the China-Africa summit in Beijing, promising to create at least one million jobs.
