Man hides mother’s body in freezer for two years to collect pension

In Sarroch, near Cagliari, Italy, the carabinieri discovered the body of a 78-year-old woman in the freezer of the house where she lived with her son, reports the Italian news agency Ansa.

The latter, aged 54, was arrested after confessing to the police that he had hidden the death of the septuagenarian in order to continue receiving his pension.

He claimed that his mother had died of natural causes, “at the time of Covid”, without being able to date the death precisely. He had placed her body in his freezer, hidden under ice.

The body must now be autopsied to ensure that the woman died of natural causes. According to Ansa, she suffered from health problems. Her doctor and pharmacist will be questioned by investigators.

The son is the subject of an investigation for aggravated fraud against the state and concealment of a corpse.
