Mali orders Swedish ambassador to leave country

Malian authorities have announced that they have given Swedish Ambassador Kristina Kuhnel, 72 hours to leave the country, the Foreign Ministry said.

This comes after Malian authorities accused the ambassador of making a hostile statement from her Minister of International Cooperation and Trade on Mali.

“The Swedish Ambassador to Bamako, summoned to the Foreign Affairs on 9/8/2024, received notification to leave Malian territory within 72 hours, following the hostile statement of her Minister of International Cooperation and Trade on Mali”, the Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“A press release will follow,” the ministry added.
