At least nine people were killed and twenty-six injured on Friday, August 9, in a bus crash that hit a bridge in Ankara, according to an initial report from the governor of the Turkish capital.
The accident occurred around 5 a.m. in Turkey (local time) when the passenger bus from Eskisehir (center) hit the pier of a bridge on a highway approaching Ankara head-on, prompting the intervention of a large number of vehicles and emergency personnel, reported the public television channel TRT.
According to Ankara Governor Vasip Sahin, quoted by TRT, “there is no evidence of braking at the scene, which suggests that the driver may have dozed off”.
Bus accidents are common in Turkey. In May, ten people were killed and forty injured in a collision between a bus, two cars and a truck on a highway near Mersin (south).
