Surfer’s leg found on beach after white shark attack

Kai McKenzie a 23-year-old surfer, was attacked on Tuesday by a white shark measuring just over three meters in length while he was at near a beach in Port Macquarie in the Australian state of New South Wales, several media reported.

The young man, who had his leg torn off by the shark, managed to return to dry land by surfing a wave despite his serious injury.

There, he was taken care of by an off-duty police officer, but who used his dog’s leash to make a makeshift tourniquet around the wound. In critical but stable condition, the victim was airlifted to a hospital 200km away.

Shortly after, Kai McKenzie’s leg was also found shortly after and placed in ice. The limb was also transferred to the hospital where specialists will attempt an operation to reattach it to the body.

At the same time, a GoFundMe page was created to allow the young man’s family to pay medical and rehabilitation costs. More than 65,000 euros have already been raised.
