Five dead, three injured after shooting at birthday party

Five people, including the suspect, died and three others were injured during a birthday party in Florence, Kentucky on Saturday July 6, reports NBC News.

After receiving several calls, the police went to the scene around 3 a.m. When they arrived, two victims were lying in front of the residence where the evening took place.

A total of four people aged 19, 20 and 44 were shot and killed at the scene. The three injured people were taken to hospital and are in stable condition.

Aged 21, the suspected shooter has been identified. The latter was fatally shot after trying to flee the police by car, according to the first elements of the investigation. The man who knew the birthday party attendees but was not invited was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“We’ve never had a situation like this before. I know it’s happened all over the country, but this is the first time we’ve had a mass shooting in Florence,” responded Jeff Mallery, chief of police of Florence.
