The UN denounced this Wednesday, July 3, reports of “unacceptable” abuses and even torture suffered by Palestinian detainees since the Hamas attack in Israel on October 7 and the war in Gaza, and demanded an investigation.
Asked about a recent case where the Israeli army admitted that soldiers tied an injured Palestinian to a military vehicle during a raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk replied.
“It is clear that it is sickening to see totally unacceptable treatment,” he condemned during a press briefing in Geneva.
“There is absolutely a need for a transparent and independent investigation into this so that we can find out what happened, and to ensure that those who committed these acts are brought to justice,” he added.
