At least 18 people injured by lightning in park in Czech Republic

Lightning struck a tree in the grounds of a castle, injuring 18 people in the north of the Czech Republic this Sunday, June 2, emergency services said, revising an initial report which reported at least 13 injured .

The incident took place in the park of Liberec-Vratislavice Castle, about 90 kilometers northeast of the capital Prague, on Sunday afternoon.

“There were 18 injuries at the site, seven of them serious,” said Michal Georgiev, a spokesperson for local emergency services, adding that the injured were taken to hospital.

The spokesperson for the Liberec hospital Vaclav Ricar initially reported 13 injured, including five children, while the police counted 15 out of X.
