40 dead after two armed attacks in Nigeria

At least 40 people have been killed in two armed attacks in central Nigeria, the country’s authorities announced.

“The armed attacks had been carried out against villages surrounding a mining area,” according to Udu al-Umma, Governor of Plateau State.

He added that at least 40 people were killed as a result of two armed attacks, which also left a large number of people injured, according to a preliminary toll.

“The assailants kidnapped dozens of inhabitants of the villages attacked, while some villagers fled to neighboring regions”, he explained.

For the time being, neither attack has been claimed.

Nigeria faces attacks by armed gangs in various parts of the country, as well as by terrorist organizations such as Boko Haram and Daech.
