Niger: six soldiers die in mine explosion

At least six Nigerien soldiers were killed in an explosion and several terrorists neutralized in air strikes, the Nigerien army announced.

“A military vehicle returning from a patrol in Inatès hit a mine near the village of Tingara, killing six soldiers,” the Nigerien army announced.

“In response to this cowardly act, air strikes were carried out against the terrorists involved in this attack and resulted in the neutralization of many of them,” the army added.

Since 2017, the western part of Niger, bordering Mali and Burkina Faso, has been plagued by terrorist attacks.

Last March, more than twenty Nigerien soldiers were killed and seventeen wounded in an ambush by gunmen on an army convoy near the Burkina Faso border.
