Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has announced the lifting of all economic sanctions imposed on neighbouring Niger and ordered the immediate opening of borders with Niger.
He also ordered the resumption of commercial flights and the supply of electricity to Niger.
Niger’s exports to Nigeria, including livestock and onions, have declined since the regional bloc ECOWAS imposed sanctions on the country following the overthrow of President Bazoum.
Niger, dependent on its imports, has suffered from a lack of essential products, with border communities hardest hit by these sanctions.
