Religion: Africa’s largest mosque opens in Algeria

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune inaugurated the continent’s largest mosque, which is also the third largest in the world.

The Great Mosque of Algiers is now the third largest mosque in the world, after the mosques in the Islamic holy cities of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.

This mosque has the tallest minaret in the world, spans 70 acres (28 hectares) and can accommodate up to 120,000 worshipers at a time.

It costs more than $800 million and should host prayers during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
