At least 40 dead in Liberian tanker explosion

A tanker truck exploded while on the road and residents rushed to siphon off the gasoline in Totota, Bong County, Liberia, according to reports.

The death toll is estimated at at least 40, with several people suffering serious burns and dozens more injured and taken to various hospitals in the region.

Former President George Weah expressed his “deepest sympathy” to the families of the victims.

“President Weah said the images of the tragedy were deeply disturbing and called for assistance to the affected families, while the Liberian National Red Cross and other relevant government institutions are involved in healing and treatment efforts,” reports said.
