Former Lyon mayor Gérard Collomb, ex-Interior Minister in the first Macron government, passed away peacefully among his family after suffering from stomach cancer in Lyon, France, according to reports.
Gérard Collomb had been an early supporter of Emmanuel Macron before his arrival at the Élysée.
His health had deteriorated considerably in recent days, and he had been taken into the care of the oncology department at Lyon Sud hospital.
According to his wife, “he died during a short period of coma.”
President Macron and his wife paid tribute to a dear friend, a mayor who devoted his exceptional talents for dialogue and imagination to building a city in his own image, and a statesman who embodied republican ascendancy and authority.
