The army announced that it had discovered a mass grave in Kidal (north-east), a Tuareg separatist stronghold that it recently recaptured in Mali.
“On Thursday November 16, the FaMa (Malian armed forces) discovered a mass grave in Kidal during their security operations,” the army wrote.
“This mass grave is a reminder of the atrocities committed by lawless terrorists”, the army added.
Mali’s army, which also announced investigations “to bring the perpetrators to justice”, captured the town of Kidal from Tuareg rebels on November 14, a hotbed of independence claims from which the central state and army had been driven out in 2014.
