US state enshrines the right to abortion in its Constitution

Voters in Ohio, a state located in the east of the United States, voted to include the protection of the right to abortion in their Constitution, US media announced.

“Yes” won more than 57% of the votes, according to the first partial results.

Hundreds of thousands of voters went to the polls this Tuesday, to participate in a particularly closely watched vote across the Atlantic, more than a year after the decision of the country’s Supreme Court to revoke the right to abortion.

Since the Supreme Court overturned in the summer of 2022 the ruling which guaranteed the federal right of American women to terminate their pregnancies, the question of the right to abortion has returned to the states.

Many have restricted or banned it, others have strengthened it.
