Gabon: woman wanted for counterfeiting banknotes

A woman is actively sought in and around Libreville for complicity in the manufacture of counterfeit money, following the arrest of a Gabonese gravedigger and an Equato-Guinean.

The facts date back to September 2023, when the Gabonese authorities caught a network of counterfeiters operating in the region.

The new BEAC (Bank of Central African States) banknotes, reputed to be forgery-proof thanks to numerous modern security features, were the target of this illegal operation.

Investigators discovered that the counterfeit bills were produced using a printer, ink, A4 sheets and nail varnish.

The aim of these counterfeiters was to transform “monkey money” into real money.

However, thanks to the sophisticated security features of the new banknotes, counterfeiting has become a major challenge.

The Gabonese National Police is calling on the public to be vigilant, and is asking for everyone’s cooperation in finding this woman presumed to be an accomplice.

Citizen cooperation is essential to put an end to counterfeiting activities and protect the integrity of the national currency.

A wanted notice was issued on October 6 by the national police force.
