Unicef warns of the situation of children facing cholera in the DRC

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has warned of the situation of children facing the cholera epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

More than 8,000 children under the age of five have been infected with cholera in the first seven months of the year in the troubled province of North Kivu, UNICEF warned on Friday, citing “the worst cholera crisis” since 2017.

This province in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo has been plagued by armed conflicts for almost three decades, resulting in the displacement of populations.

The most affected province, North Kivu has more than 21,400 cases, including more than 8,000 children under the age of five, according to the DRC Ministry of Public Health, quoted by UNICEF.
