New Zealand lifts its latest covid-19 restrictions

Government in New Zealand announced the lifting on Tuesday of all remaining measures relating to the fight against Covid-19, more than three years after they were first implemented, Reuters reported.

New Zealand was one of the countries with the most severe and long-lasting restrictions in the world. It had adopted the so-called “zero-Covid” strategy in order to eradicate the pandemic on the archipelago.

Health Minister Ayesha Verrall said in a statement that it is no longer necessary to wear a mask in healthcare settings or self-isolate for seven days after contracting the virus.

The archipelago has so far recorded 3,249 COVID-19 deaths out of its 5 million inhabitants.
